THE WEEKEND: The country house appeal of BrookLodge Hotel was obvious the moment we walked through the door. Two large, placid golden retrievers lounged in the entrance hall, while two sweeping staircases made the way up to the first floor. Winner of Georgina Campbell’s Hotel of the Year 2010, the Wicklow retreat at Macreddin Village has once again proved its worth, after winning the AA Hotel of the Year 2009. Charming staff showed us to our spacious mezzanine bedroom suite, with a stand alone bathtub and a view of the lush Wicklow countryside.
