Macreddin Village is a gloriously peaceful setting perfect for a walk in the Wicklow countryside. We have mapped walks available at reception upon request. Anyone wishing to make a day of it, can bring along one of our Macreddin Village Back Packs which we are delighted to prepare for you, with just a little notice.

The Macreddin Trail (Approx. 6km) is our most popular...
This is a lovely walk along country roads and lanes surrounding the hills of Macreddin Village. The Macreddin Trail provides a challenge for the walker in places with some slight inclines followed by some rewarding declines. If the Irish weather allows, the scenery is breath taking and your eyes can take you for miles in the distance with the amazing landscape and colours of the County Wicklow countryside. Our Front Office Team will provide you with a trail map to guide you along your way.

The Railway Walk, Tomnafinnoge Woods, Tinahely…
Located just fifteen minutes from Macreddin Village, the Railway Walk runs along part of the original train track from Woodenbridge to Shillelagh; alongside the Derry River and through some farmland. The walk has some picnic tables along the way and has a clearly defined path. A great way to spend some quality time with nature and work up an appetite for when you return. The Red Kite Walk, Avoca…
Located just fifteen minutes from Macreddin Village, this walk begins at the old school beside Avoca Handweavers in Avoca Village. The Red Kite walk will take you through some wonderful woodland and you can view the Village from the forest walk that overlooks it, just follow the red way marking signs. Not only will walkers love this 2.5km trail, but birdwatchers are in for a real treat too. In 2009, The Golden Eagle Trust re-introduced a set of Red Kite birds into Kilmagig Forest. Today, there are 30 breeding pairs who have made their habitat around the Red Kite Walk, which is part of the forest. Well signposted, this self-guided walk overlooks Avoca Village and you will enjoy stunning scenery along its route. Click here for more information on The Red Kite Walk, Avoca

The Spinc, Glendalough…
The Spinc ridge overlooks the spectacular Glendalough Valley. A tough climb is rewarded with breath-taking views not just of the Valley but as you climb high the vista over the Wicklow Uplands opens out around you. This is a strenuous, route of 9km with the highest point reaching 500m. The terrain consists of a rocky trail, some wooded boardwalk and forest roads. This walk is suitable for well-equipped walkers of reasonable fitness and is conveniently marked with white arrows from start to finish. Begin this amazing walk at the upper Lake car park in Glendalough. Click here for more information on the Spinc Walk, Glendalough
