Our Green Ethos Shines Through! 💚

Recently, we were lucky enough to have been featured on the RTÉ news, where Our Village Well Water and our commitment to Sustainability and Our Organic Ethos was showcased. Here at BrookLodge & Macreddin Village, we are fully committed to Keeping it Green and we are extremely proud of Our Organic Ethos and how far it has come today! We are very conscious that we must do our utmost to minimise our impact on the natural environment – this extends to the energy we consume, the waste we produce and the natural resources we utilise.

We are proud to say that our very own Village Well offers pure fresh water, ensuring its purity alongside minimising its carbon footprint. Thanks to the EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) and their thorough inspections, the bottled still or sparkling water that is provided in all our bedrooms, meeting rooms and restaurants is purified drinking water that is safe for consumption.

The interview highlights how many people in Ireland are putting their health at risk by drinking water from Small Private Supplies that are not registered or monitored. Following a report from the Environmental Protection Agency, they discovered that one in twenty Small Private Supplies and Private Group Schemes failed to meet standards designed to protect people against E. coli.

BrookLodge & Macreddin Village is one of 1655 registered Small Private Water Supplies across Ireland. The Environmental Protection Agency provides free water testing twice a year; however, it is important to also do your own water testing alongside this.

The Environmental Protection Agency is concerned that not every private supplier is testing their water. Noel Byrne from the EPA stated that the 1655 number does not represent all the Small Private Supplies nationally, meaning they are not registered and therefore their water is not being monitored. The EPA is concerned that the quality of water is not going the right direction. Thank you to Laura Fletcher from RTÉ and Noel Byrne from the EPA for coming out to us and continuously testing our village well water, along with highlighting the importance of water testing!

The number of Private Group Water Schemes with E. coli failure has increased from 13 in 2022 to 22 in 2023. BrookLodge & Macreddin Village are clear about the benefits of registering and testing its water supply and the EPA are encouraging more private suppliers to do the same.

Thank you to Laura Fletcher from RTÉ and Noel Byrne from the EPA for coming out to us and continuously testing our village well water, along with highlighting the importance of water testing!
